![]() Email Forwarding Services An email forwarding service will give you a new email address. All email that is sent to your "new" email address will automatically be forwarded to your existing email account. That way, you can filter out the spam! If you are using an email package such as "Pegasus Mail" or "Eudora", it is very easy to set up a filter that will direct all mail sent to a certain email address into a separate folder. If you make it a practice to use ONLY the free email address when you are publicising your site to the outside world, you should find that most spam gets filtered out and ends up in this separate folder you set up. Then once a week or once a month, or whenever you feel is appropriate, you can delete the contents of that folder and all the spam is gone. It is worth taking a look from time to time at the email in there, in case somebody has sent you a genuine comment about your site. But at least with this system you won't find that your normal email address gets buried under a landslide of spam! Limitations I advise against using this free email address on your actual site, even though putting your real email address on your site may bring you some spam. The reason is simple: sadly, many spammers and con artists also hide behind the relative safety and obscurity of free email addresses, and so people who are familiar with free email services may feel ill at ease to see that the address on your site is a freebie. free web site, Free E-Mail. hotmail free email
If you operate a mailing list or newsletter, you risk being branded a spammer even if you never break the rules. You could lose your email account, even your web site... all for a crime you didn't commit! While there's no perfect solution, here are some tips to help you avoid becoming a victim of somebody's bad memory. The Danger Every time you send out an email to a large audience, you're running the risk that somebody will have forgotten that they signed up for your mailing list. Normal people will put it down to bad memory, and accept the email with good grace or follow the instructions to unsubscribe themselves from your newsletter. A few trigger-happy induhviduals won't even bother to read your whole newsletter; instead they'll just reach for a preprepared "complaint" that they fire at every "spammer", and at the "spammer"'s ISP. The Consequences of Failure If you are labelled a spammer, many nasty things can happen to you. Often, your ISP will deny you access to your account pending an investigation; a similar reaction from your web hosting company may shut down your site (temporarily, we hope...) Finally, you will be blacklisted: a sordid and often secret process whereby your email address is added to hundreds of confidential lists around the Internet. These lists are maintained by ISPs, cyber-vigilante groups and others, and a listing on one of these groups will guarantee that in future your email address will be cut off from some recipients (your email will be filtered automatically and thrown away before it arrives). hotmail free email.
